Manufacturer

Fliess welding consumables — since 1915

Hermann Fliess & Co. GmbH is a German manufacturer of welding consumables based in Duisburg. The company was founded by Hermann Fliess in 1915 and within a few years established itself as a major manufacturer of covered electrodes and gas welding rods.

By the mid-1920s Fliess was exporting worldwide. Development and production of wire electrodes for submerged arc welding began in the 1930s, and for gas-shielded metal-arc welding in the 1950s. The company filed numerous patents and invested continuously in modern production.

Fliess is still family-owned and is today run by the fourth generation. It works to three stated principles — highest quality, speed, and uncompromising fulfilment of customer requirements — and commits explicitly to Germany as its production location.

Specialisation

Medium-alloyed consumables, tightened to narrower tolerances

Fliess specialises in medium-alloyed welding filler materials for high-strength, heat-resistant, low-temperature and weather-resistant steels.

The analysis tolerances of the wires are considerably tighter than the valid standards require, and that applies in particular to companion and trace elements. In the heat-resistant grades, for example, the Bruscato factor of 15 ppm demanded by American standards is as a rule well below 10 ppm.

For a buyer this is the practical difference: where a standard defines an acceptable band, Fliess works inside a narrower one, which is what makes the grades usable in creep-resistant and low-temperature applications.

Quality

Checked quality

The quality department checks every wire ring, and each production stage is subject to continuous quality control. Welding consumables are produced without exception to AWS A5.01 class or higher.

The Fliess certificates are listed below; open any one to read its scope.

ISO 9001:2015

Quality management system certified to ISO 9001:2015.

EN 13479

EN 13479 — the general product standard for welding consumables, covering conformity of filler metals and fluxes.

KTA 1408.2

KTA 1408.2 — quality assurance for welding consumables in nuclear power plant components.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Summa-Chem an authorised Fliess distributor?

Yes. Summa-Chem d.o.o. is an authorised distributor of Fliess products for the Croatian market, and supplies the programme in Croatia and the region.

Where can I buy Fliess products in Croatia?

Through Summa-Chem. Browse the catalogue, open the item you need and send an inquiry from that page — the designation travels with the inquiry, so there is nothing to retype.

Which Fliess products does Summa-Chem offer?

The published catalogue covers 98 welding products in four programme groups: MIG (GMAW) wires, TIG welding rods, SAW wires and gas welding rods. Alongside them are 13 informational entries for packaging units and coil types — the technical configurations these products are delivered in, not separate items in the programme. 111 catalogue entries in total.

What is the difference between the MIG/MAG, TIG, SAW and gas programmes?

They are four different welding processes and the filler is made for each. MIG/MAG uses a continuously fed solid wire under shielding gas; TIG uses a cut rod fed by hand into an arc from a non-consumable tungsten electrode; SAW uses a wire electrode under a blanket of flux; gas welding uses a rod melted by an oxy-fuel flame. Each catalogue group lists the classifications for its process.

What is Fliess particularly specialised in?

Medium-alloyed consumables for high-strength, heat-resistant, low-temperature and weather-resistant steels, produced to analysis tolerances tighter than the standards require — in the heat-resistant grades the Bruscato factor is as a rule well below 10 ppm against the 15 ppm demanded by American standards.

Are different packagings and coil types available?

Yes. The programme is available in all coil types and diameters, and the catalogue publishes each packaging unit with its DIN EN ISO 544 designation, type and dimensions.

Where do I find Fliess technical documentation?

Each product page publishes the classifications, material number, approvals, chemical composition and mechanical properties listed for that item. The official catalogues and certificates are in the documentation section of this page.

How do I send an inquiry for a specific Fliess product?

Open the product and use the inquiry form on that page. The item is attached to the message automatically, so we know exactly which grade and packaging you mean.
